Travel Photography Competition – week 45

Hello everybody and welcome to the 45th edition of our popular Travel Photography Competition. It’s been nearly a year since we started our competition and every week we receive more and more stunning pictures which let us discover some really beautiful corners of this planet!

This week we are reviewing photos published on our Facebook page between 16th and 23rd May.

The first winner was taken at Figuera Borda, on western Ibiza, Spain. It’s a secluded gravel beach which is more than 10 metres long.

Ibiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, located nearly 80 km off the coast of Valencia. Although predominantly known for its night-life and electronic music scene, Ibiza has much to offer to those interested in culture, as it’s home to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the fields of Posidonia of Ses Salines Natural Park, the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta, the fortifications of the Ibiza City and the cemetery of Puig des Molins.

The second winner in our competition was taken in Hensley Settlement, Cumberland Gap National Park, Kentucky, USA. Hensley Settlement is a living history museum, dating back to 1845, which contains 12 wooden houses, a one-room school house, and a blacksmith’s.

And the last winner this week comes from northern France and was taken in Wissant, a fishing port and farming village located 16 kilometres south-west of Calais.

Roland Botterman who took this photo said that “Wissant is a place (…) where you really can get an idea of how the defences of the German army were built in the second World War.I think B/W helps to create the right atmosphere.” What you can see in the picture is a concrete blockhouse built during the II World War as part of the defensive fortifications.
